It is normal for people to compare the performance of one hero’s film’s performance with that of another – especially heroes in the top rung. That is what is currently happening with “Dhruva” and “Janatha Garage”. When Ram Charan’s film was released everybody in the industry was sure that it will create records at the box office. Various reasons were cited for their predictions – it is the re-make of a blockbuster film, the trailer and first look posters captured the imagination of the people arousing their curiosity etc etc.
However the film did not match up to the high expectations of the industry. “Janatha Garage” collected Rs.20.83 crores on the opening day behind “Sardar” at RS.20.90 crores and “Bahubali – The Beginning” at Rs23 crores. Based on the hype and the trailer and other factors industry watchers expected that “Dhruva” will surely collect around Rs.18 to 20 crores on the opening day. But the film ended up collecting only Rs.10.59 crores only. “Dhruva” reached the Rs.21 crores in three days. This means that what “Janatha Garage” collected in a day, Ram Charan’s film could collect in three days.
Industry experts opine that perhaps after seeing two back to back flops Ram Charan is yet to grow into a crowd puller. This combined with the demonetisation might have affected the film badly according to sources
