CM Suspended by Party

In a rare occurrence, Arunachal Pradesh Chief Minister Pema Khandu has been suspended by his party. 6 other MLAs of the party besides the CM were suspended citing indiscipline.

Mr Khandu is accused by the ruling party leaders of trying to merge his party with the BJP. After the expulsion, Mr Khandu is reportedly considering a legal action on party high command. In September this year, People's Party of Arunachal (PPA) embraced Mr Khandu and 42 other MLAs who came out of the Congress party.

Takam Pario, a noted leader of PPA, is likely to replace Khandu as a majority of the ruling party's MLAs are reportedly backing him. It may be noted that Mr Pario will be the 4th CM in Arunachal Pradesh this year.

The northeastern state has been struggling with political turbulence since last December when Khandu and his 42 supporters revolted against the then ruling Congress party. During a dramatic series of events, when the Modi govt. imposed President's rule in the state, the Congress moved the Supreme Court and reverted the rule.

Later, Khandu became the CM when his predecessor Kalikho Pul committed suicide in August this year. Now, he is also being replaced by another CM
